Dr. Ana Elizabeth Bastida is a leading scholar and practitioner in the law, policy, and governance of mining and minerals, with a particular focus on the critical and strategic minerals supporting the transformation of energy systems. She is a senior lecturer (associate professor) at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law & Policy, University of Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom.
Her research and publications, including The Law and Governance of Mining and Minerals: A Global Perspective, examine the evolving multi-level legal architecture governing mining and the minerals that underpin a more sustainable future, as well as pathways to more equitable outcomes. She is recognized for her global and comparative approach, connecting local realities with international frameworks and advancing inclusive, multistakeholder collaboration.
She brings nearly three decades of experience advising governments, international organizations and civil society on legal and institutional reform to align mineral resource governance with development, environmental, and human rights objectives. She has a strong track record of building international academic and policy partnerships and leading applied, policy-relevant research, including collaborative research and innovation platforms and policy labs addressing emerging governance challenges. Her academic work bridges theory and practice, contributing to capacity development and the training of professionals and policy-makers working in resource-rich countries and across global supply chains.
